Garmin nüvi 1490LMT 5-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Lifetime Map & Traffic Updates
Certainly this is a good buy. Just look at the photo comparison of the maps between 1535 TM (left) and the nuvi 1490 LMT (right).
I like the anti-glare screen. It works well even in bright sunlight. The images are clear and crisp. Good voice volume in reading out the directions.
Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the Garmin Nuvi 1490LMT:
Bright, big and loud – 5 inch screen. Resolution is beautiful. Very fast GPS lock and lightning scrolling as smooth as butter, with maximum map detail switch on. (Reviewed by Steven Rawlins)

Garmin Nuvi 265WT Review : Is It Worth The Price Tag?
Garmin Nuvi 265WT Review by Chris Smith

The Garmin Nuvi 265WT has Text to speech which to me is the one of single most important feature. You get actual name of the road, street, or interstate you are turning on to is critical in a dense traffic area like city travel.
I actually prefer the computer generated voice as you get more information like “turn left in 50 feet at Newton Way”, instead of just a short “turn left in 50 feet”. All the turns are given to you with adequate time to prepare.

For the money you can’t beat it. It shows speed limit, traffic, and has Bluetooth, all of which I use in addition to the normal GPS features.
You can easily steer clear of traffic with an integrated GTM 20 FM traffic receiver designed to receive alerts about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. The traffic updates are free for the life of the device. I love the traffic feature, it is accurate and simple to understand.
Here are some great features of the Garmin 265WT:
- Bright 4.3-inch diagonal color touchscreen; 480 x 272 pixels, WQVGA TFT display with white backlight
- Sleek, ultra-thin design fits easily in pocket
- Preloaded with City Navigator North America NT
- Supports Bluetooth wireless technology for hands-free calling when paired with Bluetooth-enabled cell phones
- The model number on the device itself is 265W as the “T” in 265WT refers to the additional traffic receiver inclued
Overall, this product is user friendly, easy to configure, POI works great. It is very easy to mount on windshield. Traffic information is good to have. Re-routing calculation is fast and quick. I like this product by having the peace of mind, no matter were you are going.
Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the Garmin 265WT:
One of my favorite features is the FM traffic receiver. You can touch the icon and have it tell you where the traffic is on the route and how long it should delay your trip. Then, if you want, you can have it reroute your trip. Another great feature is the Bluetooth capability, which allows you to make cell phone calls through the GPS device rather than holding onto the phone or using a Bluetooth headset. I’ve had the 265 for a month now and love it, and I can’t imagine going on long or new trips without it now. Considering the price, it is quite feature-packed and powerful and should satisfy both entry-level users and those who have owned other devices. (Reviewed by Greg)

The Garmin Nuvi 255W connects to satellites very quickly. We’re pretty much ready to go immediately after it’s turned on.
The super-bright, 4.3-inch widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen touchscreen display. Not only do you get a better view, the larger device makes it easier to push the controls as they are widely-spaced.
The anti-glare screen makes viewing in the daytime a breeze. I like the auto day-night mode. In dimmer environments, it automatically changes color profile for easy viewing. You have a choice of 2D or 3D perspective views.
I like the odometer screen which let you track different kind of data about your long trips. This includes information like moving time, average speed, maximum speed, stopped time. It shows you your estimated arrival time on the main screen, depending on your stops and speed.
Here are some great features of the Garmin nuvi 255W:
• 4.3 Inch Auto Navigator with Anti Theft Feature
• Voice Prompted Turn by Turn Directions
• With HotFix, It Calculates Your Position Faster to Get You There Quicker
• Compatible with Optional Enhanced MSN Direct Content
• JPEG Picture Viewer, World Travel Clock, Currency Converter, Calculator and More
If you want to buy this GPS unit, you can get it cheapest online through Amazon here.
What I don’t like:
* The battery life Battery life is below my expectations. I managed to get by charging it on the road.
* The manual doesn’t show you everything this GPS can do. You have to download the pdf to learn the trips to use it to its max.
Conclusions:
The Garmin Nuvi 255w screen is bigger, time to load new directions is faster, correction when you leave the route is faster… a simple and very intuitive GPS. I am happy with it, which is also one of the bestselling model on Amazon.
All in all, if you are looking for a GPS that gets you where you want to go and not looking for fancy stuff, this is the one for you.
Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the Garmin Nuvi 255W:
I actually could not decide between the Garmin Nuvi 255w or the 750 model, so I decided to buy them both for comparison. I found that the display on the 255w was brighter, clearer, and more vivid in both daylight and at night. The 255w has a display of the posted speed limit on the road which you are currently on, right above your current displayed speed. I found myself not even looking at my car speedometer as I could easily see my current speed and the speed limit of my route at a glance. The 255 also automatically adjusts the font size of displayed text so that even lengthy text will fit. My final decision was to keep the 255w and return the 750… (Reviewed by Schultzie)

I use the TomTom XXL 540TM for a few long road trips (1000+ miles) and very happy with it. I found the ‘estimate’ of time to be quite accurate. It comes complete with 5.0 inch widescreen navigation featuring Lifetime Traffic and Map Updates.
On average, 15% of the road network changes each year, so it is important to have the most up-to-date maps. With this device, you’ll always stay current with its accurate maps.

The screen is very clear, crisp and readable even against the sun glare – you will enjoy driving guided by this model.
Here are some great features of the TomTom XXL 540TM:
- Plug & Go–Works right out of the box.
- 30 Day Latest Map Guarantee–Up to date, off the shelf.
- TomTom Map Share–Modify your own map and benefit from others’ verified changes with TomTom Map Share.
- Help Me! Emergency Menu–Easily access local emergency providers such as police, fire stations and hospitals.
- TomTom HOME–Always up to date.
The TomTom also allows you to go in and edit the maps. You can set/change the speed limit, mark roads as impassible either temporarily or permanently, etc. You can then opt to share these changes with other TomTom users.
What I don’t like:
The mounting is not that sticky and the unit can pop up fairly easily. However when I cleaned the windshield and tightened the screw, it did hold quite well.
Overall:
From a practical view point, Tom Tom XXL 540TM is very usable, and value for money. I’ve always been a great Garmin fan, but this unit is exceptional… I do like it
The routing is great, and that’s precisely what you would expect from a good GPS.
Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the TomTom XXL 540TM:
I liked how easy the screen was to read, and loved that it zoomed in and out depending on how fast we were going. I tested it side-by-side with the Google Navigation app built into my phone. The verdict? Outstanding! I was pretty impressed with the speed it took to acquire satellite signal. Also liked the fact that it alerted us as we approached speed cameras. We were notified about 1/4 of a mile away from the camera. (Reviewed by C.R.Swanson)

The computer-based GPS I am replacing with this unit often took several minutes to calculate a multi-state trip. This unit typically completes route calculation within 20 seconds or less. That’s a reasonably fast calculation.
Here are some great features of the Garmin Nuvi 260W:
- GPS system preloaded with City Navigator North America NT
- 4.3-inch touchscreen display with 2D/3D mapping perspective
- Turn-by-turn directions with voice guidance and text to speech
- Rechargeable lithium-ion battery makes it convenient for navigation by car or foot
- Includes JPEG picture viewer, world travel clock with time zones, currency converter, measurement converter, calculator and more
This is a nice, slim unit. I can put it in my shirt pocket and carry it with me. Even with the suction-cup mount and power supply, it’s fairly easy to move from vehicle to vehicle.
Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the Garmin Nuvi 260W:
Garmin Nuvi 260W is so easy to use; I didn’t even use the manual – once. The larger screen size of 4.3 inches really helps those with fat fingers and those that don’t want to squint to read a map. I can even use my polarized sunglasses with the Garmin 260W screen and it does not distort the screen colors or have numerous horizontal lines. It is so accurate that it lets me know if I pulled into the wrong driveway 15 feet away from mine. (Reviewed by Auto Buff Guy)

The Garmin systems works very well, has good satellite signal everywhere and do not delay or frequently lost signal. Another advantage are the free softwares from Garmin Website that you can use to update your gps.
Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the Garmin 205W:
This is the second Garmin 205W I have purchased. Setup was fantastically easy. It has a great database of stores, restaurants, gas stations, other stuff, and has analytics on how you’re driving, fuel economy, etc, which are really useful. Overall, this is an excellent instrument at a very fair price, and honestly, it’s so useful in so many ways I can say, I have no idea how I lived without it!

The touch screen is easy to see and the search option is great when you don’t even know what exactly you are trying to find. Even my husband, who is not technically inclined and can’t read maps, can use this device with ease. My favorite is that you can set it to alert you when going over posted speed limits. Best buy I had this year! (Reviewed by Rebekah)
